How A Risky Gamble and a Flashlight Fetish
Turned Into One Of The Best Decisions I Ever Made
Picture this...
It was early November, but a balmy 40 degrees. We were in Richmond, VA
and it was just beautiful. There was a gentle breeze stirring up a few
remaining fallen leaves in the front yard. I was sitting on my front
porch - just thinking...
I was thinking about Christmas. It was just around the corner and we
were going through a bit of a rough stretch - financially speaking.
Despite having little money for gifts, my wife Robin and I had scrimped
and had been able to save back $500 to buy Christmas presents for the
children.
Times were a bit tough, working a few extra hours to try to get those
ends to meet. It was also during this time that I was putting some
finishing touches on a simple repeatable system for generating
predictable passive income on the Internet that I had been working on
for the last 6 months.
It was ready and I was just itching to put it through a live test run!
And wouldn't you know... it was also about this time that I had started
to see a bunch of spam email for these cool little mini-racer remote
control cars.
I tell you what, for the level of spam I was getting - I figured these
things must have been selling like hot cakes. I started to get a little
excited...
So, I started digging around. After a few hours online, I found that
there was an incredible hot market for these cars. I also found a link
for a direct wholesale source in China.
I couldn't believe it...I had stumbled right onto a super hot market.
Then I had a thought...
What an incredible place to test out the new system I had been working
on.
I hadn't had a chance to test it on a live market yet and this looked
like the PERFECT opportunity.
But there was one problem...
Where was I going to get the money for that initial investment? This
was what I was sitting on the front porch on this gorgous day thinking
about...
I knew in my heart that I could turn a small investment into a huge
profit. After all, I had spent the last few months developing the exact
system to do it with! And here was my vehicle (pun intended:-). These
mini-racers were going to be my ultimate test.
But where to get the money? Then it struck me...The CHRISTMAS MONEY!
That's right, I could convince my lovely wife, Robin, to loan me that
$500 we had saved up for the kids' Christmas presents.
Brilliant! But how to sell it to Robin...
Now imagine this. For 5 years I had been trying to make money online. I
had bought dozens of courses and spent thousands of dollars. And what
did I have to show for it?
A really big credit card payment!
As you can imagine, I was NOT looking forward to approaching my wife
with yet another "hare-brained idea."
Nevertheless, I gathered up my last four months of work (and all of my
hope) and asked her if I could use our Christmas money to see if my new
system would really work.
That's when, after just a moment of uncomfortable silence...
Robin Quickly Reminded Me Of All
My Failed Attempts To Make Money Online
Of course, what else should I have expected? With my dismal track
record, my wife had every right to doubt me. After all, we were in no
position to take unnecessary risks.
* Our credit card debt was steadily increasing
* We were already living paycheck to paycheck
* The car was in disrepair
* We could barely afford groceries
* And I had already wasted a small fortune over the past 5 years
Under these circumstances, it was totally appropriate for my wife to
ask:
"How Is This System Different Than All Those Others
And Why Will It Work Where Others Have Failed?"
I had to give it to her. It was a GREAT question. But I had an answer.
I explained to her that my system actually took all of that stuff that
I had learned over the last year and made it all make sense.
I pleaded practically non-stop, that I had figured out how to make it
all work, by taking the good stuff from each of the others and filling
in the gaps with what I had learned and tested. I had ultimately come
up with
A Complete, Repeatable, Workable and SIMPLE System.
And with my chest puffed up full of pride I told her,

Maybe a little over the top, right? But I couldn't help it. I KNEW that
I had something and I KNEW that I could prove it to her.

theories or techniques to master. In fact, you can run through the

So, I decided to use this passion for flashlights as fodder for an
illustration to PROVE to Robin that I knew what I was talking about
with my new system....
OK, after I took in a few deep breathes....I started to explain...
"Picture two guys sitting in a room, one on the left side of the room
and the other on the right. The guy sitting to the right in the room
is holding a single flashlight. This flashlight has seen better days -
it is worn, dented, and dirty; generally pretty beat up.
You can tell that this guy loves his flashlight and probably uses it
everyday.
The guy sitting to the left in the room has about a dozen flashlights.
He has flashlights of many shapes and sizes neatly sitting in front of
him on the floor - all of which are very clean and in excellent
condition."
After I had the stage set, I asked her "Now, if you were selling
flashlights - to which guy would you market?"
Robin immediately answered the first guy sitting to the right - the one
with the beatin and banged up flashlight.
Ah ha! I had her now! So, I asked her "Why?"
Robin answered, "Well, it seems to me that this guy could really use a
new flashlight, as his is worn and old. Plus the other guy already has
plenty of flashlights - all of which appear to be in working order."
Logical, yes - but she was so wrong! With a smile
on my face, I shouted "NOPE, You're Wrong!"
Robin gave me this funny look of confusion, and I had to laugh. After I
started to get a bit of a heated stare, I went on to explain,
"Although the guy on the right appeared to be in need of a new
flashlight, he obviously hadn't replaced his current flashlight in
quite a while. And if it still works, he most likely wouldn't want to
replace it anytime soon. He loves this flashlight for whatever reason
and sees no need to add another flashlight to the mix.
Now the guy on the left has an obvious passion for flashlights. You
can tell this by the number of flashlights he has with him, how he has
displayed them proudly around him and that they have been kept in very
nice shape.
This guy would most likely jump at the chance to add to his
collection. See, he has a passion for flashlights." (And trust me, I
would know!)
And then I saw it...that Light Bulb moment.
She finally realized that I actually knew what I was talking about.
I thought I was well on my way to gaining my investment capital. That
after 3 whole days of pleading, trying to convince my wife to part with
the Christmas money she had saved; I was going to get that $500. And I
did, but it came with one BIG condition:
If My System Failed, I Had To
Give Up Internet Marketing Forever!
Talk about pressure. If I lost that $500, not only would our children
not have gifts for Christmas--I'd have to give up on my dream of making
a living on the Internet for good.
My feet were to the fire, and the moment of truth was fast approaching.
There were only 46 days until Christmas.
What happened next was nothing short of amazing.
I know by that fact that you are still reading my story that you have
JUST GOT TO KNOW how this all turned out...what happened after I got
the $500 from Robin?
* Did the system work?
* Did I have to give up Internet Marketing Forever?
In short, I put the system to work. I completed all 4 steps as I had
designed, and--BAM!--the money started rolling in. Can you believe it?
It was the most liberating feeling I have ever felt in all of my life.
I really did it!
And it was a snap, because I followed all of the steps - from A to Z
that I had developed and tested.
I had...
1. Found a Hot Target Market, by way of my Spam Filter and some
online research time - and by researching in the right places.
2. Found a Product to Promote - this one kind of fell in my lap. But
I verified the profitibility and customer base for the Mini-Racers
by following the system to know where and how to find products.
3. Designed the Web Site for Maximum Profit - after putting together
my system and going through all of my testing, I KNEW what to do to
design my Mini-Racer site for Max Profit.
4. Got Qualified Traffic to Your Site - I used just one traffic
strategy outlined in the system to get started, Pay Per Click
Advertisement. But I also knew from the algorithyms outlined in the
system when to switch away from Pay Per Click Ads to maximize my
profits and continue to get high, qualified traffic.
I'll let you all in on a little secret... See, I knew all along that I
would eventually wear Robin down...er, I mean convince her to take one
last chance on me and the Mini-Racers.
So during the 3 days of begging and pleading I had been quietly
preparing my one page web site, tweaking it for great search engine
placement.

source for the Mini Racers and I had PPC Ads all ready to go. So, when
I got that Go Ahead...I was off in a flash.
And don't you know that in just a few hours, I had sold out the stock I
had just ordered with my initial investment! I didn't even have the
product in hand yet, but I had sold out. And I had dozens of more
orders ready to be filled. I tell you what, I didn't mind having to
jump on the phone with my wholesale source to order more cases.
And the icing on the cake... I was not only able to repay Robin the
$500 of Christmas money she had loaned me, I also had enough profits to
make it one fabulous Christmas for every one!
Talk about a happy man!
And in the weeks leading up to Christmas, the system continued to pump
profits into my bank account--to the tune of... well let's just say it
was the first time in my life I had pulled in 5 figures in a week.
I was ecstatic. So was my once skeptical wife. :-)
We immediately put the money to good use:

Just to demonstrate the power of what I've learned from all my years of
trial and error, take an "insiders" look at my first website that I
setup to sell "mini RC cars" from.

I knew my TARGET! So I provided GREAT content in my follow up emails,
plus I continuously offered affiliate product endorsements for other
products that generated incredible affiliate commissions for me.
I also regularly published a newsletter, sent out occasional emails
with helpful hints and suggestions about mini racers, and also offered
some valuable resources that made my readers truly appreciate what I
had to offer!
And here's exactly how I accomplished this...
I designed my tiny "Amateurish" one-page website around "Mini Racers".
I knew this was a popular subject in general, even searched heavily on
the web at the time, and I was confident I could get my fair share of
traffic to the site in this niche'.
But more importantly, the site was NOT focused on every aspect of mini
racers. It was a "Laser-Targeted" website that dealt only with the
issue of buying a new mini racer.
This one site raked in just over $20,000 in its first month online from
a simple 6 to 7 page site... (I expanded as my market told me more of
what they wanted - more on this soon!)
... More importantly though was how I made all that money from this
one tiny site...
Here's what I did...
I found a reputable drop ship supplier for related products, and I knew
that if I was going to put up a site that was a "SUPER Discount
E-Store" primarily selling mini racers I wouldn't make much money.
Believe me... I found that out the hard way!I didn't make any money
trying to sell these items on eBay either because the competition
was fierce (even back then).
So now I really needed to be clever...
So what I did was I created a simple site that was ONLY geared towards
buying a new mini racer. This was a "highly targeted niche" that I
knew at the time had little competition in the search engines.Then I
re-designed my website with ONE PRIMARY FOCUS. G
et everyone who visited the site to give me their email address. How
did I get their email? Simple... I offered a free downloadable report
titled:

This little 8 page report was predominantly displayed on the main page
(capture page) of my site with nothing else! NOTHING! There were no
links to anything.
You landed at my site and either downloaded the report or you didn't.
If you did decide to enter your email address and download the report,
you were then redirected into my small amateurish-looking website where
I sold REAL Mini Racers.
My report was downloaded thousands upon thousands of times by visitors
to my website. More importantly, I built a database of targeted email
addresses which allowed me to follow up via email and "back-end"
products to my list on a consistent basis.
I only had one small text link on the site to the product catalog that
simply read "Visit My Mini Racer Dealership ", and this link wasn't
even available to anyone unless they'd already given me their email
address!

This "dealership" link took a visitor directly to a small online gift
shop where I sold several brands of Mini Racers and also Mini Racers
Upgrades & Accessories for a nice additional income.
They TOLD ME what they wanted, I got it and I sold it to them!
Do you see the point I'm trying to make here? When I had a full blown
web store in other niches that offered EVERYTHING, and I didn't
specifically focus on capturing email addresses from a targeted niche
and begin building a relationship with my list, my business was dying a
slow death.
But through all my trial and error, I learned a lot!
And I understood one critical element...When folks wanted to buy a mini
racer car or other toy, they would automatically go to a local
elecronics store or one of the other hundred mega "toy stores" online.
They didn't even know I existed -- And I didn't have the advertising
budget to compete with them.
But because I began offering a free report on buying a new mini racer,
I had thousands of folks visiting my little website every month! I
wasn't offering a "PRODUCT" for sale on my site... I was offering some
useful information!
